"Confessions of a Dopamine Addict" and "Wrath" released digitally September 25, 2020! A music video for "Confessions of a Dopamine Addict" was also released the same day, which served as the second episode (entitled "Inspirations, Aspirations") of the five-part animated series, In Ashes.
In an interview with Apple Music coinciding with the release, Billy Corgan detailed the band's latest chapter: "I think this is the music that's coming out now is the things that have taken root. We've gone back to just being ourselves. We're good pop assassins, and I think as long as we're sort of in that space, we're good. Anybody can ascribe anything they want to it as far as stylistically, but it bears repeating that what most of the general public knows of the band is really only one small slice of the band's music. The band’s sort of width was a lot wider. So this falls quite comfortably in the music that we've made through the years."
"Wrath" has been performed twice by solo Corgan in live streams. The first was on December 16, 2020 for the DC101-DERLAND At Home charity benefit for the National Independent Venue Association, and the second time on NPR's World Cafe, where he revealed the song has to do with "someone being frustrated with love as a concept". It was also performed by Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin and Sierra Swan at the Together and Together Again benefit show this past July. "Confessions of a Dopamine Addict" has yet to been performed in a (pseudo-)live setting.
AllMusic listed "Confessions of a Dopamine Addict" as a recommended track on CYR, opining that it combines "shadowy background vocal harmonies and stacks of Cure-informed synth lines for the kind of tense, trembling atmospheres the Pumpkins excel at." The song peaked at #14 on the LyricFind U.S. Songs chart.
