Pastichio Medley is a medley of riffs from a variety of sources recorded after Siamese Dream and before the completion of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
"Rachel" bears a similar sound to, and is apparently an early version of, the Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness song "X.Y.U.".[1] As well, "Disconnected" is an as-yet-to-be-completed instrumental version of "The Aeroplane Flies High (Turns Left, Looks Right)".[2]
Full versions of "Feelium", "Knuckles", "New Waver", "Zoom", "Phang", "Blast", and "Speed" were released on 2012's reissue of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness; and full versions of "Millieu", "Jackboot", "Rings", "The Groover", and "Star Song" were released on 2013's reissue of The Aeroplane Flies High.
The band used a single disposable paper plate to write down and keep track of all the titles for the riffs and songs.[3]
“ | This is our growingly infamous riff collection of practically, but not almost, every idea that was attempted for Mellon Collie that didn't even make B-side status. I sorted through hundreds of hours of rehearsal and album tapes, and kind of randomly ran small bits all together to create a pastiche of madness. The original titles were all used.

Reversed extras[edit | edit source]
On the 2012 deluxe reissue of Mellon Collie, "Pastichio" was re-sequenced into a 44-second track called "reversed extras". Most clips are identical to those found on the original "Pastichio", only shorter and in reverse. Others however are alternate takes or are not reversed. Some clips do not exceed a single second.
