"Hooray!" is the tenth song from Act I of The Smashing Pumpkins' 2023 rock opera, ATUM. Billy Corgan has stated it is one of his favorite tracks off the album. Sung from the perspective of Ruby – a robot character within the ATUM story – the song makes reference to the 1976 film Fellini's Casanova. In the film, there's a scene where Casanova is "so out of options as a lover that [he] takes it up with a dancing robot."[1]

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

(performed by Ruby and The Diamonds)

Osirah and Nighthawk have fled the X+I via car, throwing out their cell phones as they know they're being tracked. They pull over in the middle of the night to open the treasure chest they had found. Inside they find an antiquated hard drive. Because of the old technology, Nighthawk determines that there are only so many places left on Earth with compatible ports for this model of hard drive. They decide to go to an amusement park that both Nighthawk and Osirah visited as a child, called "Dream Dream." The park has long been closed, but they know that there used to be old dancing robots, and those likely have the connections for the hard drive.

As Osirah and Nighthawk explore the old amusement park trying to find the robots. They are discovered by a security guard known as The Watchman, who instead of calling the police, actually assists them in locating the robots, also turning on the lights and electricity to power them. The robots are a group, with their lead robot named Ruby. Unlike the other robots, Ruby is still in very good condition. As Ruby is powered up, she sings her signature song, "Hooray!".[1]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

out on the plains of chickamongo
rode a lass who nigh could lasso straight
she knew her wilds but would not follow
a valentine arriving on feb 8th

rose played the bucks and
rose skipped at luck and
rose flowered out on the range
alone in knowledge of life's great college
as summoned up on the stage

it was hi-hi-hi-de-yay

so giddy-up and truck, confound you's
it's giddy-up enough! we want to stray
take the up and up ‘til life astounds you
and giddy-up and up right off the page

for your amusement
this rose won't deign to fade

out on the hills of rouge diablo
squints a gal for pals she shall not save
her six shooters were a blazin'
as shined by tresses dyed in lemonade

mercy me, oh
oh, mercy mine-oh
clementina
my clementine-a

out on the mounds of ‘ol piccocyto
that lass who lasso's straight

once craved the wilds but since only follows
a valentine so brave

where it's hi-hi-hi-de-yay

so giddy-up and truck, confound you's
it's giddy-up enough! we want to stray
take the up and up ‘til life astounds you
and giddy-up and up right off the page

this rose won't fade
this rose won't fade
