(BC after Jimmy solo: Ow! Mr. Jimmy Chamberlin on the drums!)
Iha: Thank you, Spokane. Uh, we’d like to thank Jane’s Addiction and Poppy Chan...for rockin’, rockin’ so hard.
BC: And James, do you know the best part? This is the best part.
Iha: The best part?
BC: Once we finish our set, the Smashing Pumpkins are gonna come out and play for you.
Iha: Oh, cool. That’s awesome, I’m looking forward to that.
BC: They gotta lotta hits.
Iha: I’m just [2 unintelligible words].
BC: Grunge, they’re gonna play some grunge.
Iha: Really big in the ‘90s, guys.
BC: You know, because all...basically before ‘89, there was no rock and roll, there was just acoustic guitars and then ‘89: Seattle grunge. [4 unintelligible words].
Iha: Aren’t you skipping –- skipping the Beatles, [2 unintelligible words] grunge?
BC: No no. There was no rock and roll before ‘89, there was just guys with acoustics singing love songs, and then in ‘89, then the rock and roll thing started. And then the Pumpkins came along and...well, you know...we’ve known them for years and uh....
Iha: Great guys.
BC: Heh heh. I joke! I joke here, Spokane.
Iha: We digress.
BC: How are you all doin’, you alright? We started this band 34 years ago.
Iha: Long time.
BC: Do you remember?
Iha: You ask me but I don’t. I do not.
BC: We were in my father’s bedroom, the one he sold drugs out of, that’s where we started this band. You remember that part?
Iha: I don’t. I don’t.
BC: We’re gonna get to those hits in a second, uh, heh.... You know, I was born a weirdo and uh, I’m still a weirdo. To quote David Crosby, I would let my freak flag fly if I had a freak flag to fly. He almost cut his hair, I have no hair to cut. I swear this goes somewhere, I apologize, it actually does go somewhere.
Iha: Any second, we’re gonna -– gonna get right back to the program. Thank you so much for (trails off laughing).
BC: And then the Pumpkins are gonna come out and play! I guess where I’m going with this is -– first of all –- thank you so much, thank you, it’s so great to see everybody. We’ve been here for a day or so, we got to see the town, meet a lot of nice beautiful people, so thank you so that. Spokane: a place to raise children.
Iha: It’s cold as hell too.
BC: But you know uh, I’m up here playing and uh, I’m thinkin’, this didn’t happen to Bing, I don’t think this happened to Bing, what’s happening to me. You know who I’m talking about: Bing? Bing? Isn’t Bing from here?
Iha: Wow. So [2 unintelligible words].
BC: Did you know Bing was from here?
Iha: Who?
BC: (laughing) Bing Crosby!
Iha: Oh! Buh buh buh Bing. Buh buh buh boo. I was just talking about Bing Crosby, heh heh.
BC: They’re probably still sick of hearing about Bing Crosby, heh heh. Anyway, the where I’m going with all this is it’s amazing to me to be playing this many years later –- playing these songs for you. And even after 34 years, after 34 years, I look out in the audience and I see some people looking at me and thinkin’ what the fuck happened to him? What are these songs he's playing? What the fuck happened to him? When do the Smashing Pumpkins come on stage? Ohh, it’s so funny to me. Buh buh buh boom, heh heh heh. Anyway, we’d like to dedicate this song to everyone here, thank you so much. We love you, we appreciate you. And so we dedicate this song to you, it’s a little song like we -– uh, god dang it! I blew my intro. We dedicate this song to you, it’s a little song we like to call Tonight, Tonight.
