Notes[edit | edit source]

Banter[edit | edit source]

(possibly incomplete beyond noted tape cuts due to fade outs between some songs on source tape)

Stumbleine (Billy solo acoustic)
BC: Thank you.
Jupiter's Lament (Billy solo acoustic)
BC: Thanks. Thank you. Hey, you nice people up front, you gotta be quiet, please, it's very hard to sing over you. That’s all, just be - please be nice. The price of fame, the price of fame. Well, it's funny, before I was famous if this is what famous is, people still talked over me, so um, I guess I was famous then, you know it. So this is...this is a song I wrote a couple weeks ago, but I thought I’d play it just to see how it goes. So if it’s - oh, it's called Towers of Rabble and if it sucks, lemme know, okay?
Towers of Rabble (Billy solo acoustic)
BC: Thanks. This is my friend Eric. Eric is the most famous rock cellist in the world, by the way. And he's very sensitive and he plays softball. Oh, you're mic’ing the cello, Vince. So how's everybody doin’, is everybody alright? You know, all the money you paid for these tickets is all going to charities. Every single penny of it, I’ll have you know. So you should be very proud of yourself. Remember charity is a year round thing though, it's not just one day. Well, charity's not necessarily about money either, you know. I’m sorry? How much money do I donate? That's not really important, is it? I'll have you know I donated your five bucks. (big crowd cheer) It's not important! I mean, if you've got ten bucks, give one, if you've got a thousand, give a hundred, you know, what’s the big deal? This is a song I wrote - this is a song I wrote right when I came home from Lollapalooza, that wonderful event in my life that about killed me. So uh, hope you like it, it's called Thirty-three.
Thirty-three (Billy acoustic w/Eric Remschneider)
BC: Thank you. Thanks. I just wanna play one more song and then we'll bring out the rest of the band. They've shaved their heads, you may not recognize them but they’re the same people. D’arcy is. So just one more sad song and then they’ll come out. Well, they're all sad, remember? But you’re not sad though.
Guy in crowd: Yes, we are!
BC: Well, that’s a discretionary point but um...this is called To Forgive.
To Forgive (Billy acoustic w/Eric Remschneider)
BC: Sorry.
Iha: Hello.
BC: Thank you for your being so patient, it's just like, you know, it’s been a while since we played a lot.
Iha: Thank you.
BC: No, I mean, can you, you can um, I mean, we're not gonna play any old songs though, so just so you know, for that man who keeps shouting Window Paine over and over. Hey, just so you understand, everything from Pisces Iscariot backwards is old, no more. Just in case there’s any confusion.
Iha: We will do some Bob Dylan medleys though.
BC: Yes. [tape cuts]
Lily (acoustic)
BC: That was a happy song, wasn’t it? Here's another happy song. It’s a new era, all happy songs. Only happy songs.
Tonight, Tonight
Jellybelly
Speed
Mouths of Babes
BC: Thank you very much. Just - these.... Yeah, thank you. It's like way too [2-3 unintelligible words]. The album will be out in 1997. I promise.
Here Is No Why
BC: (weird voice) Thank you. (normal voice) Thank you so much. It's too dark, it's like too evil feeling. (some cheers from the crowd, including one “Hell yeah!”) You like it? I feel like I'm in - I feel like I’m in King Diamond's band.
Iha: He’s evil.
BC: Happy! [tape cuts]
Cupid de Locke
BC: Thank you so much.
Beautiful
Iha: Oh yeah. We’re just knockin’ ya down tonight.
BC: We're not playing real well, so are you having a good time anyway?
Iha: Any second we’ll come back though.
BC: I think we're gonna come back right now. What?
Iha: I made my mind [unintelligible word].
BC: Huh? Time for you to take your jacket off?
Iha: I think what is gonna bring us together are two shirts.
BC: We both realized we had the same shirt on, so.... [tape cuts]
God
Zero
BC: That was called Zero.
Iha: He’s telling me to unleash the beast within.
Porcelina of the Vast Oceans
BC: We apologize for our slight inconsistency but uh.... I love you too. ... That was called Porcelina of the Vast Oceans. I’m like CKG, I always announce the songs we play.
Iha: (radio voice) This is Allen Stan, the aging [unintelligible 1-2 words] and uh, we got the Smashing Pumpkins here today. (normal voice) We’re gonna play a song called Fuck You.
BC: They can be found in the “where are they now?” pile.
Fuck You
Love (abandoned before lyrics, presumably due to repeated PA feedback)
Iha: Where’s that hum whisperer, [unintelligible word]?
BC: This is called Rove. Rove! R-O-V-E.
Love
Set the Ray to Jerry
BC: So we're gonna start recording in about a week. I think we've written about 40 songs or something like that. Of course half of them are bad but um.... We hope the album will be about 24 to 30 songs. It's for sure gonna be a double record, so...but it's only gonna cost two dollars.
Muzzle
BC: The last song was called Muzzle. Gonna shut ya mouth.
Bullet with Butterfly Wings
BC: Like to play one more song for you and then we’re gonna go away. We would play all night, but we suck, you know, is all. We’re gonna do like.... We'd like to do one more song for you, it's one of those beautiful sad songs that I seem write so many of. So we ask for your undivided attention and uh, I can't thank you enough for coming. And I can’t thank you enough for being so patient, I realize it's a lot of songs you haven't heard, but you were warned, but anyway. So thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, we appreciate it so much.
Galapogos
Iha: Thanks.
[encore break]
Iha: Check, check, cchhheck.
Blew Away
BC: For now, that song’s out of my shit list. Understand, hon?
(tuning)
Iha: Yeah. So uh, those rainbow [tape cuts].
Frail and Bedazzled
[encore break]
By Starlight
Pissant
Iha: (high pitched) Come on!
Hello Kitty Kat
BC: Thanks.
[bow]
BC: Thank you so much, god bless you. Hope to see you again in October.
