Banter[edit | edit source]

(may not be 100% complete, as recording cuts end of Snail and beginning of Window Paine)

BC over end of song: (singing) La la la la la da –- (speaking) throw that fucker out! (singing) La da da da da ya -- (speaking) hey wait, throw that guy out! Throw that guy out! Don't be throwin' stuff at me, man. Throw that fucker out. Good evening. We're very happy to be here. Just don't throw stuff at our heads.
Iha: Just don't throw fuckin' shit at us!
Geek U.S.A.
(BC alt last line: I fuckin’ love the U.S.A.!)
D’arcy: Oh, we're glad they let you all down here, we were getting lonely. Makes the sound better too.
BC: You're all -– you’re all very bad, you've all broken the rules, I'm sorry.
Iha: And now we have to cling to you.
BC: You will be punished after the show.
> Today
I Am One
(BC midsong: Well, my voice is shot but my heart is good. We’re gonna give you everything we got here. Not a lot but everything we got. What you want is what you get and that’s nothing. What you want is what you get and that’s nothing. What you want is what you’ll get, what you want is what you’ll get and that’s nothing. All I ever wanted was everything. Are you listening to me?! I wouldn’t wanna think I’m screaming to a bunch of deaf ears, you know? All I ever wanted was everything. All I ever wanted was everything and all I got was shit!! Nothing can be taken from me that has not already been taken. Nothing can be taken from you that has not already been taken. ‘Cause the minute that they give you a name, that’s it, it’s over. Can’t even choose your hair, your name, your eyes...that’s it. You’re stuck in your space forever. Hoooo-yeah! Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme nothing! Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme nothing! Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme nothing. Gimme gimme gimme nothing. (band stops) So I say hello to you, my generation. Now I’m sick –- I’m sick of reading shit about how dysfunctional we are and how dysfunctional you are. The fact of the matter is is your parents and their parents were just as fucked up as we are. They just didn’t have the motherfuckin’ balls to admit it! So, welcome to honesty 1994. I got no voice but I got a heart! I got no stomach but I got a will. I’m sure there’s a way. Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme nothing! What do you want?! Nothing! Peace of mind. Are you still with us here? We don’t – we don’t wanna lose you early ‘cause we lose you later, see? This is the point in the concert where we have to keep you interested, see? You get really bored later. Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme nothing! (band starts again) Nothing! Nothing! Nothing!!!)
BC: Thank you, thank you, you're very kind. So everyone down here, let's say hi to all those people up in the nosebleed seats.
Iha: Those of--
BC: Those are the well behaved people who didn't break the law like you people did. Now we're gonna try and sing you a love song here, I hope you like it.
> Hummer
BC: Um, the uh, University of Michigan State has asked me to make an announcement. Apparent -– apparently when everybody rushed down some people got hurt, so...the university would like you to return to your seats, but obviously that's not going to happen. So, all -– all we care about is that nobody gets hurt, I mean, we want everybody to have a good time and we don't want anybody to get hurt, so please, please be very careful. And if anybody falls down next to you, be nice and pick 'em up and kick them in the ass, you know? We don't want you to think you're like a metal crowd or anything.
Iha: Use your –- use your best college judgment, heh. Dude--
BC: That's exactly why you go to college, right?
Iha: “Dude, I came down the stairs and like, I was rocking, but then I tripped over this person and I kicked them, but I was having fun, so....”
BC: So--
Iha: That's right!
BC: We'd like to play you a song from our first album, does anybody even know we have a first album? (crowd cheers) Why, thank you.
Iha: And what's that album called, Low Spark and the High Heeled Boys?
BC: Fish! Like to play you the first single off that album.
Iha: Jeremy spoke.
BC: Hahaha, Even Flow.
Cherub Rock
BC: God bless you, god bless you, thank you.
[encore break]
Iha: Thanks...for hittin’ me. ...
BC: Thank -– thank you all very much. We really appreciate your enthusiasm. I know -– I know not everybody here is from East Lansing, 'cause I'm sure a lot of people come from all around, but I'm sure -– I’m sure the majority of you are from the Midwest, as are we, and it's very nice to be in a real part of our land...where people act like people, heh!
Iha: And corn is corn!
BC: Corn is corn, the women are men and...rock is rock.
Iha: And dogs are cats and....
BC: And thank you, we hope you enjoy the rest of the evening, heh heh.
Iha: Please just don't throw anything at me again or I'll beat the fuck out of you.
BC: This is where it veers off into Lost in Space territory.
(Silverfuck intro begins)
Iha: This is by Ry Cooder.
(a minute of jamming passes)
BC: Are you ready?
Silverfuck / Over the Rainbow
[encore break]
BC: You sure you want us to play more? You’re staying? Like to play you another old song. I wrote this when I was about six months old. You want a guitar pick? Why?
Iha: You can buy these at any store. We don't use anything special.
BC: So, this is called Snail. (crowd cheers) You know Snail? You're not just lying, are you? I think a lot of people don't know this song.
