Banter[edit | edit source]

In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning Intro
D’arcy: Hi.
BC: Hi.
Iha: Hello.
Soma
Rocket
Geek U.S.A.
(BC alt last line: I fuckin’ hate the U.S.A.!)
BC: Thanks for comin'. Uhhhh...this is our last show of our tour.
Iha: Thank god, heh.
BC: So, we're gonna play more and uh.... (crowd cheers) Oh, you -- you cheer now.
Iha: But you--
BC: We're gonna play -- we're gonna play ‘til everyone leaves. (crowd cheers) (laughing) Yeah. You'll see!
Iha: He'll leave.
BC: So uh, hope you have a good time. It's nice to be here again, not here but here. And oh, by the way, I'm sorry that you're so far away, I have nothing to do with it. Sorry. Talk to your local security man.
Disarm
> Today
BC: Thanks. So what do you wanna hear?
(crowd yelling)
Iha: (babbles unintelligibly to imitate the crowd)
BC: Somebody's got a sign for Obscured.
Iha: Hahahahaha! Wait, on the back it says Even Flow.
Even Flow (tease - first few notes of the riff)
Iha: WHY...can’t I remember? Alright, we will play that song.
BC: Alright, seeing as this is a.... What, why are you giving me the finger?
Iha: Ha! It's a sign of endearment.
BC: Well, fuck you, man, don't give me the finger. There's no...see -- we're gonna play, we're gonna play about everything we can, okay, I promise.
I Got You (I Feel Good) (tease - Iha sings a line)
Iha: (singing) Baby, I feel good.
BC: It's time for the oldies portion of our set. (crowd cheers) Huh? Alright, we’re gonna play some oldies.
Spiteface (tease - once through the riff)
BC: Not that old.
Siva
> Bury Me
BC: Thanks. You care if we play more old songs? We'll get around to the new ones, just uh... (crowd yelling) There's no need to shout for songs.
Guy in crowd: Why?!
BC: Because we don't take requests, that's why. We been playin' together for five and a half years, I think we know what we're gonna play.
Girl in crowd: I love you.
BC: Whoa, sorry.
Iha: Haha.
BC: Gettin' a little forward there, heh.
Iha: It’s dangerous.
BC: This is called Rhinoceros.
Rhinoceros
Snail
BC: Hi, heh heh. Thanks, we haven't played some of those songs for a while, so.... Alright, I'd like to play one more old song that we haven't played for a long -– like, this whole tour, so we have to convince Jimmy to do it.
Iha: (exaggerated Midwest accent) Would you please play this song, Mr. Chamberlin? Can we hear that from the audience? “Would you please play this song for me?”
BC: They don't know what song it is; oh yeah, Tristessa. Come on, Jimmy, Jimmy's gettin' old, he can't play this song anymore.
Iha: We had to buy him a new prosthetic foot.
Tristessa (abandoned after Billy begins with the first two lines of 2nd verse)
(BC: (singing) Soul take soul as eye take eye, I will wait for you. (speaking) Oh, wrong lyrics. I can’t remember the lyrics!)
> Johnny B. Goode (tease)
BC: I can’t remember the lyrics!
Iha: And uh, we'll be moving on to our new LP, Siamese Dream...any second now.
BC: Yeah, sorry, um, I’m embarrassed now. (Billy plays a short blues riff) Let's just play some blues.
I'm a Man / Window Paine
BC: Sorry about that. No, no more old songs, I realize why I stopped playing ‘em in the first place.
Iha: See, we're from Chicago, heh heh. (exaggerated Chicago accent) Da home of da blues and da Bears and da Bulls.
BC: And now back to our uh, reg -- regularly scheduled program. Alright, so who have we disappointed so far, please raise your hand. We've disappointed you? I apologize.
Iha: See, but, he's givin' the evil hand. He just wants to rock more.
BC: Who having a good time? No, wait, I see some people not raising their hands now, so if you're not having a good time and you're not having a bad time, what kind of time are you having? (crowd shouts) A what? (crowd shouts) A wonderful time! Oh, okay.
Iha: Raise your hand if you've ever read Beowulf. Yeah, heh heh, everybody has, okay.
BC: James wrote Catcher in the Rye, most people don't know that.
Drown
> Hummer
Cherub Rock
Quiet
Pissant
Starla
BC: Thanks.
