Stigmata is a 1999 horror film for which Billy Corgan co-wrote the original score with pianist Mike Garson. All songs are instrumental except for "Identify", which is sung by Natalie Imbruglia. A Flood-produced demo of "Identify" with Corgan singing exists and is slated to be on the Machina reissue.[1]

In total, Corgan and Garson wrote and recorded more than 40 minutes of music for the film. Engineer Chris Steinmetz stated the material most closely resembled Adore-era Smashing Pumpkins, and described it as powerful and evocative. "[The score is] very atmospheric, but it has a lot of energy and power. It had a lot of cool drum loops and aggressive, original sounds."[2]

Other artist featured on the soundtrack include David Bowie, Chumbawamba and Massive Attack. AllMusic praised the latter half of the album that was devoted to Corgan and Garson, writing "this is mood music of the highest order, seamlessly flowing between orchestral moments, electronic soundscapes, dissonance, and light."[3]
