Lull is an EP by The Smashing Pumpkins, released on November 5, 1991.[1] It was originally intended as the "Rhinoceros" single but later reformed into an EP.[2] An identical promotional version on cassette was also released under the name 4 Titles.[3]

Background[edit | edit source]

Gish's "Rhinoceros" (feedback ending is cut) is the opening track, followed by B-sides "Blue" and "Slunk", all of which from the same Gish studio sessions. "Blue" would later appear on Pisces Iscariot[4] and a live version of "Slunk" appeared on Vieuphoria and its soundtrack album Earphoria.

"Bye June" is a recording from the Summer 1989 Reel Time sessions, originally released on the Moon Demo.

The liner notes include partial lyrics for the song "Obscured", written in cake frosting like the album cover. The song would eventually be released as a B-side on the single for "Today" in 1993 and then on the B-side collection Pisces Iscariot in 1994. "Obscured" was originally intended by Billy Corgan to be on Lull but was dropped for reasons that are unclear.[5]

In the liner notes for Pisces Iscariot, Corgan wrote:[5]
