The Smashing Pumpkins wiki

We currently have 4,324 articles, detailing 1,319 songs across 149 albums, 85 studio sessions and 2,177 live shows.
Album of the week
Oceania is the eighth studio album from The Smashing Pumpkins, released in June 2012. Produced by Billy Corgan and Bjorn Thorsrud, the album forms part of the band's 34-track project album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. Corgan said the album is partly about "people struggling to find a social identity in today's fast-paced, technology-rich culture", adding "I think alienation seems to be the key theme – alienation in love and alienation in culture". The album peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Independent Albums chart. A live performance of the album, Oceania: Live in NYC, was released in September, 2013.
Song of the day
"Geek U.S.A." is eighth track off of The Smashing Pumpkins' sophomore studio album Siamese Dream. It reworked from an earlier song by called "Suicide Kiss". Beloved for its high-energy and guitar and percussion virtuoso, it ranked at #13 in the 2012 Rolling Stone reader's poll of the best Smashing Pumpkins songs and at #54 in Guitar World's list of the 100 greatest guitar solos of all time, while Jimmy Chamberlin's drum performance ranked among the greatest of all time by Stylus magazine. A live performance of the song also appears on the band's official Greatest Hits Video Collection.
Did you know...
- ...that the renowned Gish guitar (stolen in 1991 and returned to Corgan 27 years later), was sold to Corgan by Jimmy Chamberlin, even though it wasn't his to sell?
- ...that the "Siva" song title long predates the song, and Billy Corgan considered naming the band Siva instead of The Smashing Pumpkins?
- ...that the Mellon Collie sessions were The Smashing Pumpkins' first to use computer technology. Pro Tools was ran on a Macintosh 8100, which has less computing power than mobile phones have today.
- ...that The Smashing Pumpkins single "Untitled" was chosen to be the end credit song for Shrek, but the offer was withdrawn and given to Smash Mouth instead?
- ...that "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" was one of 165 songs strongly recommended to be pulled from radio following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks?
