{{Social media/Instagram|On this night in 1997, Billy Corgan performed at the annual Tibet House Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall, New York City. Organized by Philip Glass, since 1990 the event has raised funds towards Tibet House US, the New York City non-profit that is part of the greater international network of Tibet Houses. The aim is to preserve the identity and culture of the Tibetan people that has been lost due to the Chinese invasion of Tibet and subsequent Tibetan diaspora. The Smashing Pumpkins played a similar benefit at the Tibetan Freedom Concert on June 15, 1996. The Pumpkins and related acts have performed over 50 benefit shows – most notably the Adore tour which by itself raised over $2.8 million for local charities, with the band also funding expenses out of pocket.
{{Social media/Instagram|"Stand Inside Your Love" released February 21, 2000! It was the second single from The Smashing Pumpkins' fifth studio album, Machina/The Machines of God. While "The Everlasting Gaze" was the lead single in the United States from Machina, with a radio promo single released and a high-energy music video, "Stand Inside Your Love" was ultimately released as the lead international single.

In a November 18, 2020 Smashing Pumpkins Archives post, Corgan recalled: "One memory I have [of the Tibet House Benefit] is of rehearsing with the group at large and heading out in the hall for some water when I ran into Lou Reed; who gave me a warm hug and asked me what I was doing running around with such a suspect crowd (a joke, obviously). Highlights of the night were performing "E-Bow the Letter" with Michael (one of my favorite R.E.M. songs), and sitting side by side with Mr. Glass as we played piano."
Billy Corgan has said the song was dedicated to his then-girlfriend Yelena Yemchuk. He explained, "'Stand Inside Your Love' is one of those rare songs that seems to write itself really quickly… As far as the song goes, it's sort of a love song that rocks, which is pretty rare, even for me. And I even got my girlfriend dancing in the video, so it's all a tribute to my girlfriend, I guess." At the VH1 Storytellers, Corgan would call it the only "true" love song he's ever written, adding that the lyrics began with the line "Who wouldn't stand inside your love?" and through a "stream of consciousness" wrote the remaining lyrics in about 10 minutes.

RELEVANT SETLIST:
"Stand Inside Your Love" was initially conceived to be similar to the new wave style of the band's earlier hit "1979"; however, Corgan opted for what he considered "the classic Pumpkins sound".

Set one (Corgan solo, acoustic):
The single contains one B-side, "Speed Kills", which appears in a shortened form on the vinyl and import CD versions of Machina, and in a heavier incarnation on the band's following album Machina II.

1. Blissed and Gone
The single cover of "Stand Inside Your Love" was designed by @fishtower and is primarily a depiction of the alchemical androgyne, one of the most significant symbolic representations within alchemy, and, on its most basic level, represents the perfect union between man and woman when joined as a single entity. Atop their head is a single crown, known to the Kabbalists as Kether, the source of all creation, and the first Sephiroth on the Tree of Life.
2. Death Don't Have No Mercy [Reverend Gary Davis]

Set two (Corgan accompanying other artists):
"Stand Inside Your Love" peaked at #2 on the US Alternative chart, #4 in Italy, and in the top 50 in at least six other countries. It has been performed over 470 times according to SPCodex records, most recently at the festival appearances in summer 2021.

3. Come All Ye Fair and Tender Ladies [John Cale] (with John Cale and Natalie Merchant)

4. Ship of Fools [John Cale] (with John Cale)

6. E-Bow the Letter [R.E.M.] (with Michael Stipe and Patti Smith)
7. The Long Road [Pearl Jam] (with Natalie Merchant and Michael Stipe)
8. People Have the Power [Patti Smith] (all-star jam)

The show saw the debut performance of "Blissed and Gone", and the only performance of all other songs at a SP-related show. "Death Don't Have No Mercy" appears on the Rarities Volume 1 bootleg.
